Lithium Extraction

Our speaker this week is Jim Funke, Project Director of SmackoverLithium.  Smackover Lithium is a partnership between Standard Lithium and Equinor.  Standard Lithium has been a leading lithium developer in the Smackover Formation region since 2018 with a vision to produce Made-In-USA battery-quality lithium to power America's energy transition. Equinor aligns with this vision as a global energy leader, delivering safe and reliable energy to help power American society for nearly 40 years. Together, Smackover Lithium is committed to developing top tier lithium brine projects that utilize state-of-the-art technology to secure the future of responsibly sourced domestic lithium in the United States.  Smackover Lithium is developing two world-class lithium brine project areas in the Smackover Formation: South West Arkansas and East Texas. We apply Direct Lithium Extraction (“DLE”) technology to selectively extract lithium from brine and produce battery-quality lithium compounds. We are on track to build the first commercial scale DLE facility in North America.
